Employment Law

Giannoulis, et al. v. DirectTV LLC (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. BC596668): On May 4, 2022, DirectTV agreed to the terms of a $23 million settlement regarding a class action matter where plaintiffs alleged employment misclassification and wage and hour violations. Lead plaintiffs John Giannoulis and Deshon Allen worked as technicians for third-party companies who installed and repaired satellite systems on behalf of DirectTV. Plaintiffs alleged that DirecTV misclassified them as independent contractors; failed to pay overtime wage; failed to pay for hours worked; failed to provide meal and rest periods; that defendant imposed unlawful wage deductions; failed to provide wage statements and other related claims. Defendant denied all wrongdoing in the settlement, but agreed to settle the matter for $23.15 million.
