David Lachman, et al. v. Berlitz Languages, Inc. et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. 19STCV01533): On April 1, 2022, defendant Berlitz Languages Inc. agreed to the terms of a $1.25 million settlement to settle a class action matter involving wage and hour allegations. Plaintiffs argued that defendant failed to play non-exempt hourly workers minimum wages for hours worked; failed to provide rest periods; failed to timely pay wages; failed to keep accurate records; failed to provide unpaid meal periods and engaged in unlawful business practices between January 22, 2015, and August 20, 2020. Defendant denied all allegations, claiming that it properly compensated employees and that they had lawful policies in place during the alleged time in question. Plaintiffs were represented by King & Siegel LLP and Melmed Law Group P.C.
