Featured Settlement: Stewart, et al. v. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc., et al.

Stewart, et al. v. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc., et al. (San Francisco Super Ct. No. CGC-21-590966): On April 22, 2021, defendant Kaiser Permanente agreed to the terms of a $11.5 million settlement to resolve a class action claim brought by African American Kaiser employees who were alleging issues including being underpaid, underpromoted, underpromoted. Plaintiffs alleged that Kaiser failed to adequately compensate and promote African American employees based on Kaiser’s discriminatory policies, practices and procedures. Kaiser agreed to implement new programs to ensure that African American employees were subject to fair and equitable compensation and advancement opportunities. Kaiser also agreed to retain a compliance office and an independent consultant to develop a thorough job analysis review within one year. Plaintiffs were represented by Medina Orthwein LLP.
