Top Ten Verdicts/Settlements of 2025
Here is a list of the top ten largest civil case verdicts or settlements in California for 2025. There is a little bit of everything including wildfires, a commercial jet dropping fuel on over houses and yet another data beach…
#1) Coming in at number one on our list is a $556 million dollar settlement in the USA v Kaiser Permanente, et al matter, a case involving a whistleblower who blew the lid on artificially increased Medicare reimbursements without corresponding clinical justification. After the United States DOJ intervened in the action, the parties agreed to settle for the historic amount.
#2) Number two on our list is a $100 million settlement in the In re: PG&E Corporation Securities Litigation matter. PG&E investors filed a securities class action matter alleging that PG&E made false and misleading statements regarding safety and compliance practices leading up to the devastating October 2017 and November 2018 wildfires in Northern California.
#3) Landing in #3 on our list is a $78 million settlement in the In re: Delta Air Lines Inc. matter. Property owners filed suit against Delta Air Lines after a commercial pilot jetissoned fuel during an engine malfunction over a residential neighborhood in Southern California, causing alleged property damage, environmental contanimation and toxic exposure to fumes.
#4) Number 4 on our list is a $46 million settlement in the John Doe, et al. v. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, et al. matter. Plaintiffs in this case sued Kaiser Foundation Health Plan alleging that their private information was compromised thanks to third-party software code utilized in Kaiser’s website and mobile applications.
#5) Siding in at #5 is a $40 million verdict in the Schultz, et al. v. Johnson & Johnson case. Plaintiffs in this matter alleged that Johnson & Johnson’s talcum products exposed them to asbestos and talc, causing them to develop ovarian cancer.
#6) At #6 on our list is a $33 million settlement in the Thomas McNamara, et al. v. Triangle Media Corporation, et al. case. Plaintiffs in this matter alleged that defendants engaged in a deceptive marketing scheme involving a subscription for personal care products, supplements and e-cigarettes where the subscription was difficult to cancel and/or obtain a refund for.
#7) Rolling in at #7 on our list is a $7.7 million settlement in the People of the State of California v. Cellco Partnership dba Verizon Wireless case. District attorneys in this matter sued defendant, alleging failure to report hazardous materials, pay permit fees, allow inspections and failure to comply with environmental laws.
#8) Coming in at #8 on our list is a $7.25 million settlement in the Myo Thant, et al. v. Rain Oncology, et al. class action matter. In this case, plaintiffs sued Rain Oncology alleging violations of federal securities laws concerning the steps taken by Rain Oncology’s to develop and commercialize a drug named “milademetan”.
#9) Sitting squarely at #9 on our list is a $5.25 million settlement in the Estate of Jane Doe v. Roe Supermarket matter. Plaintiff in this case claimed to have suffered a traumatic brain injury after tripping and falling over an exposed metal bracket at a frozen foods bunker.
#10) Topping our list at #10 is the $4.65 million settlement in the Jane Doe v. Roe Package Company case where plaintiff was t-boned by a driver employed by defendant, causing catastrophic spine injuries.
