State of California Hit With $32.8 Million Verdict in Auto Crash Verdict
Auto Accident
Luis Alonso Rodriguez v. State of California, et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. 22CHCV01159): In January 2026, a Los Angeles verdict awarded $32.8 million to plaintiff Luis Alonso Rodriuguez, who was in a low speed rear-end collision involving his Toyota Tundra and a state-owned Dodge Charger. Plaintiff waited 8 days to seek treatment, and only did so after consulting with an attorney, with all care being performed on a lien basis. Defendants argued that plaintiff faked his injuries and that his symptoms should have resolved within 4 weeks of the crash. A jury ultimately awarded plaintiff $32.8 million in damages. Plaintiff was represented by R. Rex Parris. Defendant was represented by the Office of the Attorney General.
