Wheelchair Bound Pedestrian Awarded $15 Million Settlement After Being Struck by Vehicle Driven by LAPD Detective

Rogelio Hernandez v. City of Los Angeles, et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct No. 22STCV36223): On April 12 2024 the City of Los Angeles agreed to the terms of a $15.2 million verdict to settle an action brought against the city by plaintiff Rogelio Hernandez. Rogelio, who is wheelchair-bound, was struck while lawfully crossing a street outside of Los Angeles City Hall, by a vehicle driven by Detective Natalie Plascencia. The impact of the collision was so severe that the wheelchair was destroyed with Rogelio suffering injuries including multiple fractures to his tibia, olecranon and pelvis. Plaintiff was represented by Rohde Law Office Inc. Defendant was represented by the Office the Los Angeles City Attorney.
