FEATURED VERDICT: Occupants in Rear-End Collision With Tractor Trailer Awarded $9.8 Million Verdict

Souresrafil, et al. v. Dennis Alonos, et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. 18STCV06853): On July, 2022 a jury entered a verdict of $9.8 million in favor of the plaintiffs involved in a rear-end accident where their passenger car was struck by a tractor-trailer. Plaintiffs Abbas Souresrafil, Morteza Ahmandinejad and Robert Flores were riding in a Chevy Suburban on the 10 freeway in Los Angeles when the were struck by a tractor-trailer being driven by defendant Dennis Alonso. The plaintiffs’ vehicle suffered minor damage, and they subsequently declined medical treatment and decided to drive home to Bakersfield. After the accident, two of the plaintiffs were treated for spinal injuries and a third was treated for TBI. Plaintiffs argued that their injuries were all related to the collision, and that they would need lifelong treatment. Defendant denied the contentions, arguing that their medical bills were inflated. Prior to trial, defendant offered to settle the matter for policy limits of $925,000 per plaintiff. Plaintiffs declined and were ultimately award a $9.8 million verdict by a jury.
