In honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the professionals at Poole Shaffery spent the Columbus Day holiday providing a facelift to one of the emergency shelters operated by the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley. On Monday, October 13, 2014, ten of the firm's attorneys and paralegals volunteered their time and talents to paint the interior of a local home that shelters women and children who have been displaced from their homes as a result of domestic violence.

Each year, the firm participates in an all-hands "in-service" day on Columbus Day (a state and federal court holiday), as a team-building effort. "Many of us are blessed to live and work in this community, so it was important for us to give back to a local organization committed to helping those in need," said firm partner, Brian Koegle. Koegle added, "Unfortunately, criminal acts of domestic violence have dominated the national media's attention in recent months, so we were pleased when the opportunity to help such a worthy cause became available."
