FEATURED ASBESTOS VERDICT: $8.8 Million Verdict Awarded to Family of Helicopter Mechanical Engineer
Dickson et al. v. Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc. (Texas 95 th Dist. Ct., Dallas No. DC-12-05995-D): On March 27, 2017, a jury reached a verdict in favor of Plaintiffs and against lone remaining defendant, Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc., awarding $8.8 million in damages. Plaintiffs alleged that their decedent Billy Dickson, a mechanical engineer, was occupationally exposed to asbestos over the course of nearly 40 years while employed for Bell Helicopter, and eventually died due to the development of mesothelioma from such exposure. Decedent's duties included the testing of asbestos-containing components that were used in the construction of helicopters. Plaintiffs further alleged that Bell Helicopter never provided any form of respiratory protection, and that Bell Helicopter failed to take any steps to mitigate employee exposure to asbestos until the mid-1970's. Plaintiffs were represented by Darren McDowell and Samuel Lola of Simon Greenstone Panatier Bartlett, P.C. in Dallas, Texas.-
