John H. Shaffery is the managing partner of Poole & Shaffery, LLP. He has a broad range of litigation experience that includes trial and appellate work in both state and federal courts. Mr. Shaffery received his B.S. in 1982 from the School of Aeronautics at the Florida Institute of Technology and is a 1991 graduate of Southwestern University School of Law.
Mr. Shaffery is a commercial pilot who holds other certificates from the Federal Aviation Authority and he began his career as an Aircraft Dispatcher. His experience, background and related education in the aviation field bolsters and enhances his successful representation of clients that have included manufacturers and distributors in the aviation, chemical, computer and aerospace industries. Mr. Shaffery’s cases have involved business disputes, complex multiparty environmental matters, product liability and chemical exposure claims, labor matters and construction defect cases. For more than 10 years he has had a special emphasis on toxic torts.
Mr. Shaffery’s technical and scientific background provides him with a broad base of expertise when he represents clients in business disputes, environmental matters, product liability and chemical exposure claims, labor matters and construction defect cases. He provides clients with exceptional representation encompassing the technical knowledge necessary for more focused, efficient and ultimately successful litigation.
Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Shaffery is actively involved in the Santa Clarita Valley community. He maintains membership in the Valley Industrial Association and the firm serves as its General Counsel. Mr. Shaffery also serves on the group’s advocacy committee. He is a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and participates in its annual Washington, D.C. lobbying trips. In addition, Mr. Shaffery sits on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization LetMeSail, which provides therapeutic, social, recreational and educational opportunities for “differently-abled” individuals with disabilities.
A founding member of the Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association, Mr. Shaffery recently received the group’s Dan Hon Award, in recognition of his efforts in promoting public awareness of legal issues of interest to businesses and consumers. He is responsible for coordinating the publication of the “Business Law” column in The Signal newspaper. The column appears every Friday and has been continuously published in the local Santa Clarita paper since October 2004.
Mr. Shaffery is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association, the American Indoor Air Quality Council, and the Southern California Defense Council. Mr. Shaffery is a Fellow of the American Academy of Trial Counsel, and in 2007 was named a Fellow in the prestigious Litigation Counsel of America. The Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory gave him its sought-after AV rating, and he was also recognized as the California “Super Lawyer” in 2005 and 2006.
