Featured Verdict and Settlements: Mataiumu, et al. v. Cytec Engineered Materials, Inc.
Plaintiffs' initiated a lawsuit against their employer, Cytec Engineered Materials, Inc., contending it violated various California Labor Codes by failing to pay them, as well as other similarly-situated employees, all wages owed including overtime wages and meal and rest periods. Defendant denied the allegations. More than a year after the lawsuit was initiated, Cytec agreed to settle the matter with a gross settlement of $3.5 million. The settlement included a $7,500.00 payment to the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, $21,000.00 in administrative fees and expenses, $500.00 to each class representative. Separate and distinct from any settlement monies, Defendant also agreed to pay Plaintiffs' attorney's fees in the amount of $51,963.00.
